They were so excited to witness first-hand what they had learned inside the classroom about California history. A trip to Sacramento wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the State Capital and panning gold at Sutter’s Mill. Students were so excited to travel alongside their friends and make lasting memories! Posted in School Programs | Comments Off on Fourth Grade Field Trip to Sacramento Spirit Run Written By: Feng V - May• 16•18 Following last year’s great turnout, OLQA School participated in the Newport-Mesa Spirit Run once again this year. It is wonderful to see our school represented in this community event. The food, entertainment, and fitness expo make it a fun and memorable experience, not to mention the fact that 25% of your registration fees go to benefit our school. Hope to see you out there next year! Each month, a theme is selected and families from a different grade contribute to the funds and supplies to make the luncheon possible. Everything then is put together beautifully by PSA Hospitality Chair, Valerie Clark. Below are just a few examples of the luncheons. Teachers and staff look forward to this event each month, where everyone comes together to mingle, relax and re-charge. Students bring and donate gently used books from home in exchange for the ones donated by others. To facilitate the book fair and promote the love for reading, PSA Enrichment co-chairs, Leslie Boyd and Amy Chung, organized a book character parade where students dressed up as their favorite book characters. It’s a tradition here at OLQA School that we kick off the week with our Open House. We welcome perspective students and their families to discover the value of an enriching catholic education. Current students get to bring their families into the classroom and show off their hard work and creative projects. Each day of the week has a different theme, such as, student appreciation, administration appreciation, parent appreciation, special person, and faculty/staff appreciation. Many thanks to PSA Catholic Program co-chairs, Trina Saeedi and Mariel Burke, for your organization to make the week special! There are two teams in each of the divisions (5th-6th & 7th-8th) that compete within the Parochial Athletic League. And for the very first time, OLQA has its own cheering squad on the sidelines! Thank you to all the student athletes and cheerleaders for your hard training to represent our school. Go Angels! We thank our music teachers, Mrs. Hoppe and Mrs. Sawyers, for bringing out the students’ most beautiful voices year after year. This year’s K-4th luncheon, titled Hope Lights Our Way, was once again served by our 8th graders. PSA VP of Programs, Debbie Eldridge and Stephanie Lowe, set the stage where the sweet voices of our children remind us of the reason for the season. These are the memories that the families will treasure forever! Also as a tradition is the presentation of his/her framed art by the school directory cover art designer to Ms. Ryan. This year’s designer is Andrew Vogt. The all-school evening program is an important tradition for OLQA families where we gather to celebrate the birth of our Savior. It is organized in a lessons-and-carols format, the kindergarten through 7th graders’ musical presentations are interspersed with 8th grade students reading scriptures that tell the Christmas story. The OLQA Centor Ensemble performed a special piece for this occasion. This year’s event was held at the Newport Tennis Club under the theme of Havana Nights. Guests participated in live auction for items including luxury trips, a beautiful pearl/diamond necklace, an adorable maltipoo puppy and the much sought-after special parking spots. Afterwards, they enjoyed authentic Cuban food, live music and a cigar bar. A great time was had by all! On behalf of the entire school, we thank Dana Strader and Sandra Naughton in leading the efforts that made this event possible and successful. Our heartfelt appreciation for all the participation and the financial contributions!
